I am a current sufferer of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). After many years of dieting, exercising, and doing whatever I could to try to lose weight, I realized that I needed some help. I've struggled with weight all of my life and nothing ever seemed to work for me, despite hours at the gym, healthy eating, and determination. I joined Dr. Bernstein on January 5, 2010 when I finally realized that I needed help in order to feel better and manage the symptoms of PCOS.

Not much Movement

So I did go down today - but not by much - just by 0.6 lbs. I guess its better than gaining weight!  I was discouraged until I saw what I weighed last Friday and comparing it I'm still down about 3 lbs since last Friday.  I'm down a total of 15.8 lbs since Jan 5th which isn't bad.  I just wish I was down more.  My 2-week goal for Monday is 198-202 and I weigh 202.6.  I hope I make my 2-week goal!  I'm not cheating, drinking the required amount of water and everything. I think my PCOS is partially to blame but I'm not sure. I guess I shouldn't  complain as I never used to be able to lose weight - at least not like this!  I am jsut impatient as I want to get below 200 and my body seems to want to stay in the 200's!

My body doesn't like Wednesday's!

So I stayed the same weight again this Wed.  This happened last Wed too.  Its really frustrating as I'm doing everything right!  They offered some suggestions to me so I hope they work.  I have to reduce my diet pop intake which is going to be hard as I use it as my crutch when I'm craving food!  But I'm going to stick to 1 can a day and see what happens.

I got the results of my measurements today!

Starting waist: as of Jan 5/10: 45 inches
Waist as of Jan 27/10: 41 inches
Starting Hips as of Jan 5/10: 51 inches
Hips as of Jan 27/10: 48.5 inches

My evening urine also showed I"m burning so I am thinking if I cut down on the pop, and follow their other suggestions I will have a successful weigh in on Friday (I hope). 

Well, wish me luck for Friday - I will need it!  My Goal is to get down below 200 lbs by next Monday!  Currently I'm at 203.2.

Down again!

Well today is Jan 25th and another successful weigh in!  I'm down another 1.6lbs since Friday!  I now weigh 203.2 and have successfully lost 15.2 lbs since Jan 5th!  I cannot believe my progress!  I'm going to keep it up as in no time I will be weighing less than I've weighed in a long time!  I wish the program wasn't so expensive but I know it will be worth it in the end!

Wish me luck for Wed!  I get measured to find out how many inches I lost off my waiste and hips!  I think I'm definitaly down 1 size in pants and am almost ready to take a bunch of pants in to get taken in.  I am noticing that my shirts are fitting me larger and I think I will have to go and buy some clothes in the next month.  I am thinking of just going to Value Village as my co-worker shops there and she finds the nicest clothes for really cheap. That way when I grow out of them I don't feel like I wasted a tonne of money on them.

I just realized...

I've only be on this program for 2 weeks and 2 days and I've already lost 13lbs! For some reason I thought I was on it for 3 weeks but I just calculated and I was wrong!  That makes me feel so much better knowing that I've lost this much weight in just a short period of time!  Now I just have 75.8lbs to go!  Gosh - it seems like so much weight and like it will never happen but I'm hoping in less than 5 months I will reach my goal!

Above Average :-)

Well today was my doc's appt with the Bernstein Doctor.  I meet with her every 2 weeks.  She went over my blood work and it looks like I'm really healthy with the exception of my bad cholestoral is high.  She said this diet will take care of it and I should be fine once I lose more weight.  I am happy to see that all my other blood work came back normal too!

The doc told me I'm doing above average in terms of my weight loss.  That definitely gave me motivation and confidence that I was lacking from Wednesday's weigh in.  Oh, and I lost 1.4 lbs too today and I'm burning fat really well! 

I'm looking forward to next week's weigh in!  I do have a retirement party to go to tomorrow which will be a challenge for me but I've decided I just won't eat and my friend who's hosting it is being a sweetheart and buying me caffeine free diet pepsi!  So even though I can't drink champagne I can still celebrate with the others.

Looking forward to seeing more weight loss and I hope I can almost lose 20 lbs by Feb 1st!  I'm also looking forward to getting measured on Wednesday (I get measured every 3 weeks).  I know I've lost inches - after all, I'm down 13 lbs and they say for every 10 lbs you go down about 1 dress size. :-)

No loss today for the first time

Well, as you can guess from the title of my blog, I did not lose a pound since Monday.  Very strange but I think it has to due to 2 factors:

1) on Monday I was weighed before I ate my breakfast
2) I had a luncheon for work and I picked a garden salad but I had a lemon vinegrette dressing and it probably had sugar in it and other fat I cannot have

So I am hoping that Friday's weigh-in will show weight loss as I was hoping to lose 5lbs by the end of the week. 

Feeling frustrated but its so hard when you go for lunch and there are no healthy choices - especially for people like me who are on a strict diet. But I could have done worse and ordered the pasta or burger on the menu and instead I ordered a garden salad. 

Also, for now on I will eat my breakfast and get weighed afterward so that my results are the same. I'm sure that if I ate my breakfast on Monday, my weight would have been higher and I wouldn't have shown as big of loss as I did on Monday.  So I guess it evened out in the end. 

I'm still down 11lbs and my 2-week goal on Monday was 208-211 and I'm at 207.2 so I am still meeting it.  My next 2-week goal (Feb 1st) is 198-202 so I hope I can meet it.

Monday January 18, 2010

Well another successful weigh in!  Went down 3.2 lbs since Friday!  New weight up-date is 207.2.  Not bad considering I was first weighed on January 5th at 218.4! So far I've lost 11.2 lbs in less than 2 weeks! Amazing! Looking forward to Wednesday and Friday's weigh in's!

I thought it was important to note that I have a challenge coming my way tomorrow.  I have to go out for a retirement lunch at work tomorrow.  I'm going to only order a small garden salad and bring my own dressing b/c after looking at the menu, there isn't much I can eat. I hope that I can stay on track tomorrow!

Friday's weigh in!

Yeah, I'm down another lb since Wed.  So far total weightloss since last Tuesday (although I never started the diet until last thursday) is 8 lbs!  This diet is proving to be successful!  They said that most people lose 6-8 lbs in 2 weeks and I've lost 8lbs in 1 week!  It used to take me 4+ months to lose 8 lbs!  I'm so looking forward to next weeks weigh in.  Its just so motivating for me and I'm liking myself already!

Looks like I will be taking in my pants in a few more weeks!  What a great feeling!

Down again!

Wednesday I got weighed and I am down 7 lbs. I get weighed tomorrow.  My husband said he can see the difference already in my stomach and the rest of me.  Its only been 1 week so I can't wait to see how much I weigh tomorrow! 

The diet is going well - I'm just really hungry.  I am looking forward to reaching my goal and going on the maintenance plan that is for sure!  800 calories a day just isn't enough food - so I hope my stomach shrinks soon so that sick hungry feeling goes away!

Down More lbs!

Well its Monday January 11, 2010.  I went into the clinic as I normally do on Mon, Wed, and Fridays.  I had a hard weekend.  It was my husband's b-day and I had to deal with him and his friends eating chocolate cake and chinese food.  I do okay but I did have a nibble of chocolate cake.

I was weighed this morning and am now down a total of 5.4lbs in less than a week.  I'm definitely on track.  However, I am not burning as well as I was last week and I think it has to do with the chocolate cake I had on the weekend. I had a weak moment and I won't let it happen again. I actually got quite sick from the cake right after I ate it.  So I am thinking my body rejected all the sugar/fat I injected.

I get weighed again on Wed and Friday and I hope to keep going down.  This is really amazing for me as it usually takes me 2 months to lose 5 lbs and that's with 2 hours at the gym!  I have not been exercising and am still losing weight. 

I will check in on Wed with my updated weight.

What a Great Day!

I'm happy to report that as of January 8th I lost 3.6 lbs since I started my diet on Wednesday Jan 6th.  They also said that I'm burning fat really well and I'm right on target for my weight loss!  I have never lost almost 4 lbs in a few days before - I was so excited I was jumping up and down!  I can't wait until next week's weigh in's!!  They are just so nice there and motivating!

My biggest challenge is going to be watching my husband and friends eat pizza and chocolate cake in front of me tomorrow for my husband's b-day party.  I have to eat something totally different. But I know I can do it - at least I hope I can!  Pizza is my favourite food so wish me luck!

I'll check back again on Monday with my updated weight!

Tomorrow's the big day!

Well I went for my initial consultation at the Dr. Bernstein Clinic and got my assessment done and all my diet materials.  I did this on Tuesday.  The last 2 days I got 2 injections of the vitamin b concoction and did a urine test.  Today I came in to drop off my urine sample and they tested it and told me my body is starting to burn already.  They also weighed me today. I already dropped 0.4lbs! Not bad considering I ate spaghetti twice yesterday and a big piece of shake 'n' bake chicken! So I'm looking forward to Friday's weigh in since I will have followed the diet for 2 full days! Tuesday and Wednesday I am only to reduce my sugars and carbs. Tuesday didn't go so well for this since I was not prepared grocery wise.  However, Wednesday went very well with the exception of me having becel on my 1 piece of toast this morning (had no sugar free jam on hand).  Tomorrow (thursday) I start the diet 100% and I'm really looking forward to it.

I thought it would be a lot harder.  I do find I'm starving by the end of the day but they told me this would pass.  I have an extensive food list and the diet is really easy to follow. I found that it is easier for me to make a meal plan for the week and to follow that plan for the week so I can stay on track. 

I go in on Friday to meet the Dr. at the clinic and she will review my health history with me.  Poor her - I have quite the extensive history! 

By the end of next week I hope I'm down 10 lbs - so wish me luck! 

Well, off to eat my last meal of the day.  I will check back in a few days with a progress report.

The Day Before...

I am impatiently waiting for my diet to start. I am doing the Dr. Bernstein diet. After much research and battle with my weight, I've decided this strict diet is the only way for me to feel better. I was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome in May of 2009 and have struggled with my weight all of my life. I am 30 years old now and have had enough. After many attempts at dieting and hard core workouts, I realized I have to do something about my weight. I have reached my highest weight at 220lbs. This is the first time I have ever been over 200lbs! But I have faith that this diet will help me finally lose the weight I need to lose. The people at Dr. Bernstein said I can lose 90 lbs in 5 months. I hope that is the case b/c in 5 months will be my 31st birthday. That would be so nice to lose 90lbs by my b-day! I am so looking forward to feeling better about myself, fitting into a smaller size and being able to manage the symptoms of my PCOS. Right now all I do is go to work and come home and sleep. I'm just too tired to exercise or do much else. Hair grows on my face and body at an alarming rate now, my stomach has pertruded so much I look like I'm 6 months pregnant and I just do not feel healthy. My biggest obstacle is going to be not drinking diet pepsi and not being able to eat bread. Those are my 2 favourite things! Well, wish me luck tomorrow - that's when I find out what my diet is going to be and what I am getting myself into! I will check in a few days with my weight update.
