About

I am a current sufferer of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). After many years of dieting, exercising, and doing whatever I could to try to lose weight, I realized that I needed some help. I've struggled with weight all of my life and nothing ever seemed to work for me, despite hours at the gym, healthy eating, and determination. I joined Dr. Bernstein on January 5, 2010 when I finally realized that I needed help in order to feel better and manage the symptoms of PCOS.

Time to Add in Some Exercise!

Well I had my doctor's appt today and according to her my weight loss numbers aren't that great.  I cannot figure out what I'm doing wrong as I don't cheat on the diet and have done everything right!  Its really frustrating as I thought I was doing great! I am not used to being able to lose weight at all and the fact that I've lost over 44 lbs is amazing.  However, the doc made me feel pretty crappy about my success thus far and now I'm going to start exercising again to try and burn more calories and hopefully this will speed up the weight loss.

I am allowed to do anything but lifting weights.  So thankfully we have a dog and are now planning to go walking for 1 hour everyday. I may also add in some running to the mix as I like to run.  The only thing is that I'm worried about gaining muscle.  I gain muscle very easily which is why I am afraid to exercise on this diet.  Hopefully now this won't happen.

I am also giving up diet pop.  This is the only thing I can think of that is screwing up my weight loss. I will try it for a week and see how much better my numbers do.

This is my first crappy entry since I started in January.  I am hoping for some motivation and inspiration from my fellow readers as I am feeling pretty sad today.  I know I just have to keep going but its hard to hear from the doctor that you are not doing that great when I thought I was doing fine!

Here are my latest numbers:

Current weight as of April 9th/10: 174.0
Starting weight as of Jan 5th/10: 218.4
Total lbs lost as of today's date: 44.4lbs
Lbs to go to maintanence plan: 44 lbs

Don't listen to the doctor! Your numbers are actually fantastic! If you were at the clinic I go to, you would be a stand out! I say that because the nurses constantly praise my numbers and they are not as good as yours.

I was down in the dumps this week too, but I know this diet comes with stalls and sudden losses. One or two weeks of mediocre losses and then without warning, good losses for a bit too.

I had a few comments from the doctor too about the foods I was eating, kind of snarky actually. I chalked it up to her own issues, not mine. I ate a Josephs pita because the nurse told me to eat more and my weight didn't hardly budge the next day and the doctor took me to task for eating an allowed serving of bread!

I don't take the doctors comments personally, I just see the doctor as a tool to fix the big problems like a potassium imbalance or low Blood pressure, it is the nurses that are supportive with their feedback.

Sorry you had to go through that. Don't feel bad, you are doing just great!
